Energy and the Economist

A colleague of mine just handed off his 2010 edition of the Pocket World in Figures from The Economist magazine to me.  While part of me finds it annoying/amusing to be presented with wood-pulp pages of years-old data, another part of me was curious.  I’m  interested in ideas like the limits of growth, and peak oil, and I’m curious about whether this civilization we’ve built is at all sustainable.

This post is kind of long, so I’m shortening it.

Game Salad

Our tech director handed a program off to me today called Game Salad. I downloaded it, and essentially it’s software for writing “princess-rescuing applications”. It doesn’t appear to be terribly complicated, so I’m going to try to write a princess-rescuing application over spring break.

the head of our middle school and my direct supervisor (he doubles-down as history department chair) stopped by. This is less impressive than it sounds as we run a dormitory together, and he lives in the apartment directly underneath me. He wants me to read and review official comments about each student before they go out. Sigh. Don’t ever let people know you’re a professional writer or editor; then they try to get your services for free.
