I’m currently lying on my back, feeling the muscles of my lower back unclench. The ones on my right side have gradually released, but the ones on my left have stretched but not loosened. When I first lay down, my back was so tight that I could have slid a book between my spine and the floor. Now my lower right back is on the floor, and there’s enough space under my lower left back to put a couple of Narnia paperbacks. That’s a bit of an exaggeration physically, but this is what it feels like.
I did my main tai chi exercises earlier but this spinal stretch is new and it is clearly helping. I’m glad I’ve added it to my routine. Even more, though, I’m enjoying the mental benefits of feeling the tensions in my body and working to release them. So far so good.
